Avian flu or bird flu as it is commonly known as is an infection caused by the influenza viruses that are present in the intestines of most birds that do not live in a controlled environment. Doubtlessly, you would have heard the term mentioned in the news recently. What is the reason for the same? Why is it proving to be dangerous?
The non-domesticated birds that have the virus present in their bodies usually do not face any harm due to it. However, in case of domesticated birds like ducks, chickens etc. presence of this virus can lead to an infection that can prove to be fatal. If these birds are infected, the virus is present in their saliva, feces etc.
The major problem that has been created by infection of domesticated birds by the virus is that, the virus has started affecting even individuals who come in contact with them. However, such infections do not prove to be as contagious in humans as in the birds.
Even then, proper measures should be taken in order to prevent the spread of this disease by maintaining the cleanliness of the shelters of such birds and taking proper hygienic measures.
